A Definitive Ranking of All of the Disney Worlds in Kingdom Hearts - A Preview

My descent into madness.

Try as I may, I can never escape Kingdom Hearts. It got its hooks in me when I was a young, impressionable, Disney-obsessed boy, and I haven’t been able to get them out of me yet.

2019’s Kingdom Hearts III represented an end of sorts for this beloved series. Many storylines were resolved, and the “Dark Seeker” saga (aka the storyline of all prior games) was officially wrapped. Of course, Kingdom Hearts isn’t going away (in fact, we’ve already seen two new games release post-III), but in some respects, one chapter has closed.

And with the future of the Kingdom Hearts series so uncertain with regards to what it will even be, I decided why not look back at this saga and focus on my favorite element of this series: the Disney worlds!

Exploring the worlds of our favorite animated Disney worlds has always been one of the most iconic features of any Kingdom Hearts game. However, as we don’t quit know yet what kind of role the Disney worlds will play in future installments, I decided to pay tribute to them by, what else?

Ranking them!

Yes, ranking them is going to be a bit tricky. For one, we’re talking about a game series that’s been on a wide variety of systems, each with its own technical powers and limitations. How could I possibly compare a level in a Nintendo DS game to that of a game on the PlayStation 4?

Well, I will, and I shall. Because while these games may be on different platforms, they are from more or less the same team, and all of the worlds share the same mentalities.

In fact, as you’ll see in this list, I’d argue that the improved power of the PS4 almost works against some of these worlds. As is so true in the world of entertainment, sometimes restraint, forced or not, can be a benefit.

In terms of how this list will actually work, I’ll likely be dividing it up. Maybe not necessarily in back-to-back weeks, but considering I’m working with 32 worlds (I think, my math may be off honestly) here, I too need to show some restraint.

So, I’ll see you next week for the definitive raking of the Kingdom Hearts Disney worlds. What will be first? Last? Will people get mad? We’ll just have to find out!
